A Few Things I Have Learned Over 37 Years Of Life

With my 38th birthday steadily approaching in the next couple of weeks I have been reflecting on some of the life lessons that I have learned thus far. I'm not usually in such a reflective mood when it pertains to my birthday but for personal reasons, I have been pondering the things and situations that have shaped me and made me who I am. I am always in a constant state of change and my personality and beliefs are always evolving, so I thought it would be a good idea to document what I believe in today so I can have an accurate account of who I am at this moment in time. In no way, shape, or form is my sentiments a guide to life or meant to influence how you view the world. The journey of life that we all must navigate is a very personal one, and there is no shortcuts or hacks that will help you along the way. The only way to get through it successfully is to live by your own terms and to hold on steadfastly to your own belief system. Somehow managing to firmly hold on to what mak…

Art of the Day - L. Cole (My Artwork)

The last time I featured my own personal artwork on my blog was in 2011 when I first started blogging. Over the years I focused more on featuring other artist and artwork that I loved instead of my own personal creations. If you follow me on Instagram my feed is full of my artwork but I realized the other day my current blog readers may have no idea that I am an artist and love to create beautiful works on canvas. So today I am featuring a few of my favorite paintings of mine from over the years. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed creating them!

Denim Remix - A Unique Spin on Jeans ( My 10 Favorite Finds)

The one item of clothing that I can not live without is a great pair of jeans, and lately, designers have been blowing my mind with all of the unique details and embellishments that they have added to their designs. There are so many incarnations at every price point that you will have no problem finding a pair that fits your style. I have really been intrigued with the most outrageous and unusual designs and today's outfit of the day is showing off a cool and edgy pair by Marques Almeida. I liked the lace up detail and wanted to show one way I would style the pair, so, I centered the whole outfit around that theme.

Dress For The Occasion - A Chic Italian Getaway

Today's outfit of the day was inspired by the marvelously illustrated vintage poster by Mario Borgoni showcasing the beauty of the Amalfi Coast. I naturally gravitated towards the color scheme that the artist used to create his illustration and I wanted to use the same hues to create a wonderful outfit that would capture the essence of his work. Luckily the past few fashion seasons provided me with a lot to work with, especially from the designers Dolce & Gabbana. They have always celebrated their Italian heritage through their work and in the last few fashion cycles they have paid particular attention to Italian folklore and iconography which worked perfectly for what I was trying to create today. I ended up using one of their skirts as the starting point and added an off the shoulder tomato red top and handbag to complement it. A sophisticated pair of ankle-tie heels and jeweled cat eye sunglasses finished off the look.

African Inspiration - Black and White Geo Print

Hello, lovelies! As you may already know, I love to draw inspiration from a variety of sources and today I am drawing inspiration from Africa. The one aspect of African decor that I gravitate towards is the way they combine tribal and geo prints with the natural beauty of their surroundings. I love a lively print next to the whitewashed and weathered wood and brick walls. The combination is calming and eye-catching especially when it is centered around neutral tones.
Below are a few of my favorite finds inspired by the region.
* The teapot is actually a Japanese design but I like how it paired well with the rest of the African inspired decor so I added it to the list as well. *

Chic In The City - Caroline Constas Off The Shoulder Bustier Top

When we are dealing with sweltering heat sometimes it is an unsurmountable task to try to look chic and put together. The two major issues during this type of weather are dealing with sweat spots and wrinkling, and even though we can't prevent the inevitable we can still look good trying despite the obstacles we face enduring the heat. That is why I like jeans because you can pair them with anything and still look put together and they usually stay wrinkle free during the day. There are so many lightweight options available during this time of year it is so easy to scoop up a few pairs at an affordable price point and style a pretty outfit around them. Another option for looking good during a warm sunny day is to rock the omnipresent off the shoulder trend that has been dominating fashion for the past few seasons. There are so many options to choose from depending on your style vibe you can rock a halter style, a one shoulder strap stunner, or a go a bit wild (lol) and bare both s…
