Toya's Tales Art of the Day: John Singer Sargent's Madame X

This painting is one of my favorite paintings by any artist. In my opinion, he took a very modern approach in this portrait of Madame Pierre Gautreau. Unlike other portraits of his day, this one was extremely sexy and a little bit sultry for its time. Unfortunately, he had to correct his original painting because it had the strap of her dress falling off her shoulder and he was ridiculed for that choice. Nowadays you can flash your hoo-ha (private bits) to the world and no one blinks an eye, but back than an errant shoulder strap would appear unseemly. Boy has times changed.
