| (A red lip adds instant glam) |
An easy way for me to brighten up my face while still rocking minimal makeup is to add a red lipstick. It instantly does the trick if I do not want to wear mascara or blush (as seen in the pictures featured). This is basically my version of a lazy makeup look. A bit of foundation/concealer, finishing powder, eyeliner, and lipstick. This routine is quick and easy and can be achieved in less than ten minutes.

The lipstick color I chose to review today is actually two colors layered together to achieve the final result. Both colors are by e.l.f Cosmetics. I first applied their matte lip pencil in Rich Red. I have reviewed their matte lip pencil before in a previous post (which you can read here) but in a different shade. As I noted before this matte formulation is very moisturizing and it took a while for me to get used to because I usually prefer an ultra matte, but in this case, their formulation worked well for layering since it was not so drying.

After applying the Rich Red matte pencil next I layered on the moisturizing lipstick in Red Carpet. The end result was a beautiful finish that was not too glossy.

It's funny because I have had both of these items for awhile but haven't worn them yet because I own so much makeup. I'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to my beauty buys. I usually collect so much that I end up giving a lot away. My friends and family love it because they get brand new products for free. The only reason I decided to give these a try today is because of another blogger who you may be familiar with, the lovely Jalisa from The Style Contour (you can check out her wonderful blog here) wrote a post a few weeks ago about the color red and I had mentioned that when it comes to clothes I haven't found the right shade for me. She suggested that I would look great in a true red or candy apple red so, I decided to test out that theory. The easiest way for me to test it out was to find a true red shade that I already owned and see if it would flatter me. Since I do not own any red clothing I figured makeup would work just as well. I dug through my endless supply of lipsticks and found the perfect red by e.l.f. cosmetics. So, Jalisa, thank you, girl! You were right!!! Lol!

| (Pleased to find out that the different formulations worked well together) |
Both formulations claim to have long lasting wear. I found that on their own and together you will get about 4-6 hours of use with light snacking, but if you are eating a meal you will most definitely have to reapply. If you are participating in a major makeout session both will rub off on you or your partner so beware they are not great for a major kiss-a-thon.

Cons: Matte formulation is not a true matte meaning it is not as long lasting as most mattes
Pros: Moisturizing, feels great on, rich pigmented color

Final Thoughts:
Great lip colors that left lips feeling hydrated. Love that the moisturizing lip color and lip pencil are enriched with Shea and Vitamins A, C, & E. I also was pleasantly surprised that the jumbo lip pencil also has a handy sharpener at the base. Overall I would give both a B+.
