A Stylish Outfit For Thanksgiving Dinner

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my American readers. It is that time again when we celebrate the beginnings of this nation, mull over what we are thankful for, and gorge on all the plentiful food set before us. For a lot of us celebrating Thanksgiving includes seeing our family, friends, and acquaintances so you still want to look stylish for the festivities but still be comfortable enough to lounge around. Today's outfit of the day is perfect for the occasion.

My 5 Favorite Black and White Bow Dresses For Fall 2015

The bow dress is an iconic look that has endured for decades. Whenever I see this classic worn by celebrities, socialites and stylish women everywhere I always remembered how chic they looked. For one the color combo of black and white looks sharp and crisp, and adding the bow detail is a sophisticated touch. In today's fashion set I styled my own version of this stylish look and since I always like to have a little fun with an outfit I added a burst of color and whimsy with this Lulu Guinness quirky lip purse.  Fashion can be a serious endeavor but you have to remember to always have fun with it.

Let Your Beauty Shine Through

As I get older I have fallen into the routine of wearing a minimal amount of makeup. Basically, my makeup routine consists of applying a primer, foundation, concealer if needed, loose powder, a hint of liner, and mascara. If I am getting fancy I might add a bit of blush and lip color. If it is a super special occasion I might even bring out the eyeshadow. Generally speaking, though I like to keep it simple. As I get older and look in the mirror I see the passing of time, a hint of a wrinkle, and a bit of world-weariness. I have grown fond of the image staring back at me and decided to let my beauty shine through. Don't get me wrong I can get excited about the latest must-have beauty product or a new tantalizing shade of makeup, but it is a nice change of pace not to be hidden behind so many layers of war paint. That's why I loved the image of the model I used in today's beauty set. She looks like she is glowing from within and her makeup celebrates her beautiful features w…

The Power Of The Print

In the fashion world, an animal print is considered a neutral. Whenever I tell people this some of them look at me as if I lost my mind. They just can not wrap their head around the idea of it. Granted most of the people who have a harder time grasping the concept are minimalist at heart so I think the idea of any print being considered a neutral just blows their minds. Animal prints come in a variety of shades and scales so it is easy to find one that will suit you. In today's set, I used an abstract leopard print in black and white. It adds visual interest without it be intimidating or daunting. Paired with a simple tee and black skirt it is chic and cool. Since the cardigan is the only article of clothing with the print you can easily put it on or take it off throughout the day. It is an easy way to try the trend without taking a huge risk.

Building Your Wardrobe For Fall 2015 - A Print Jacket

A well fitting jacket is a chic and stylish way to stay warm if you have to layer up on a brisk fall day. Over the years though I have been a little bored with the basic and safe offerings that are usually found in stores. Generally, you see racks full of black, gray, and tan options which is why I haven't bought a jacket for a while even though I really need one. This season I have started to get excited again because of the variety of options that are available. You can find them in bright colors, draped, cropped, and so on, but my favorite jackets of the moment are the ones with an eye-catching print. A print is always a fun way to add visual interest to an outfit, and it is a great way to showcase your personality. So right now the only problem I am dealing with is trying to choose from all of the gorgeous prints available. In the meantime, I have put together a collection of jackets that have caught my eye and maybe one may suit your fancy as well.

Jump On This Trend

The one thing that I love about a jumpsuit is that it can easily transition from day to night. A jumpsuit can be dressed down or glammed up with a simple switch of accessories. I have always loved the idea of opposites attracting so when styling a jumpsuit I prefer to glitz it up a bit with a good pair of heels and fun jewelry. Don't get me wrong I love the casual ease of this trendy style staple but I do not want to look like I just came home from work after a hard day at the mines. So for me the accessories not only highlight but makes the outfit complete.

Building Your Wardrobe Fall 2015 - An Autumnal Mix

One of the few things that I like about fall is that it is a rich and colorful season. All of the beautiful autumnal hues are perfect for spicing up my wardrobe. Lately, I have been inspired by the fantastic creativity surrounding me - from pop culture and art to street fashion and new catwalk trends. Cool comfort is essential this season and today's set embodies all of these ideas. I love incorporating last season's trends with a current crop of must-haves for a stylish and eclectic mix.

The Modern Canopy Bed

I have never been a fan of canopy beds because I always felt they were a little too ornate, fussy and frilly for my decorating taste. Until recently I tended to be more inclined to look at a platform bed, but the other day I was on Kohl's website and was shocked that I was really digging this modern take on the canopy bed that they offered. I was also loving how they decorated the room as well. Unfortunately, they only had the bed for sale and I could not find the other items they used to decorate the room on their website so I decided to recreate the look with similar items that I found from other sources.

Building Your Wardrobe For Fall - My 6 Favorite Flare Jeans

It is true that skinny jeans have become a style staple but this fall a new shape is having its moment. If you have been following the runway collections then you may have already guessed that flare jeans are making a comeback. They are everywhere right now and I am digging a classic or vintage wash. I believe the best fit is shaping, has a bit of stretch, a mid-rise, and a slight flare. Now if you are lucky you may already have a few pairs somewhere buried in your closet from years gone by and if you do now is the perfect time to dig them out, dust them off, and rock them again. If you are new to the game and don't already own this trendy take on denim now is the best time to embrace your curves and buy a pair.

Fashion Inspiration - Emma Xie

When I style a fashion set I am inspired by any and everything. Sometimes it can be a particular color I'm obsessed with, an enchanting landscape, a fabulous designer collection, or a stunning beauty. Today I was inspired by this beautiful image of gorgeous Chinese model Emma Xie. What captured my attention was how her hair and makeup framed her eyes giving her this alluring air of mystery. I was also intrigued by the bold colors used for her makeup. It was a non-traditional color scheme that worked out perfectly. It also made me want to finally try out the yellow eyeshadow that has gone unused in my own makeup bag, but I think I need a little more practice first with it before debuting that look. Lol, and no I will not be sharing pictures of that calamity (because of my uneven application).  I got a little bit off topic so back to the conversation at hand which was the stylish outfit I created around Emma's look. I found this Warehouse Stripe Dress that perfectly captured the …

Building Your Wardrobe For Fall 2015 - Denim Jacket

For fall a great jacket is a must for cool days and chilly nights. Designers have given us plenty of options to choose from but I always loved the idea of a denim jacket. I believe you get the best of both worlds when owning one. A denim jacket goes well with casual clothing and dressier apparel (as shown below). Plus this is the season for stylish layering and a denim jacket is perfect for executing that look. I could go on and on about why I love them but I guess at the end of the day I enjoy the simplicity of the fabric and the down-to-earth vibe it gives off. It is a timeless item that I return to season after season.
