The Atari Dress
Usually, when I am styling a set I try to balance practicality with a hint of fantasy. Generally, the most important criteria are for the outfit is to be wearable, but today I am not in a practical frame of mind. I'm not trying to find the right high-low balance. I just wanted to style something that appealed to the kid in me but also made room for my adult sensibilities. For a while now I have been intrigued by the "Atari" pieces that designer Peter Pilotto has created. It took me back to the dawn of the video game era when I was a child and everyone was excited about the first Atari video game system. I was obsessed with the joystick and to this day it is hard for me to totally enjoy video games without one. My absolute favorite game to play was Ms. Pac-Man and the clothing he has designed reminds me so much of that arcade favorite. The thing I love most about fashion is that nostalgia plays a huge part in creating what we wear today and in the future.
