The Atari Dress

Usually when I am styling a set I try to balance practicality with a hint of fantasy. Generally the most important criteria is for the outfit is to be wearable, but today I am not in a practical frame of mind. I'm not trying to find the right high-low balance. I just wanted to style something that appealed to the kid in me but also made room for my adult sensibilities. For awhile now I have been intrigued by the "Atari" pieces that designer Peter Pilotto has created. It took me back to the dawn of the video game era when I was a child and everyone was excited for the first Atari video game system. I was obsessed with the joystick and to this day it is hard for me to totally enjoy video games without one. My absolute favorite game to play was Ms. Pac-Man and the clothing he has designed reminds me so much of that arcade favorite. The thing I love most about fashion is that nostalgia plays a huge part in creating what we wear today and in the future.

    1. The color is more subtle on the beige dress but I thought the featured dress had just the right amount of print for me.

  7. It's true - sometimes we do go for style more than comfort and that is perfectly okay too. I think the patterning on these dresses and clothing is actually really cool and I see how you could get the Pacman feel from it. I loved that game too in my younger days!
