A Touch Of Green
A Touch Of Green Daytime Natural Makeup Look |
Since this is a daytime beauty look I opted to only use the color green in small doses. I applied my foundation and set it with powder as I usually do and then decided to focus on my eyes. I thought the green would look best used in that area only. I had purchased the NYX eyeshadow trio in Tropical/Yellow/Lime Green but had never used it. The day I bought it I was in a mood to experiment but when I got home I chickened out after staring at the colors. Once I opened up the package the colors intimidated me because they just seemed too intense and overpowering, so I ended up tossing it in my eyeshadow bin and forgetting about it until today.

I am glad that I decided to keep the NYX eyeshadow trio and did not give it away like I usually do because I was pleasantly surprised to find out how sheer the formulation is so that dialed down the intensity a lot. The formulation was so sheer that I had to layer it on wet just so it would show up in pictures. If you are into really intense and rich colors you would have to layer this eyeshadow a lot to get your desired effect, but in this instance, the trio worked perfectly for me because I wanted a more natural sheer wash of color across my lids. To amp up the shadow I lined my eyes with NYX eyeliner in 911 Emerald City. It helped to intensify the green color in the shadow.

As you can see from the picture above the finished result is subtle and pretty. This look could work for the office as well since none of the colors used are too bold for an office environment. Plus, if you have brown or hazel eyes this color palette would complement your pretty little peepers perfectly. Green always enhances the natural beauty of brown.
Since the formulation was sheerer than it appeared in the packaging it was kind of tricky finding the right light to capture its beauty. I walked to different rooms playing with lighting so you may see some color variances in my skin tone in some of my pics. I don't see how beauty bloggers do it because that was the biggest hassle just trying to find the perfect light. I must have taken dozens of pictures trying to get it right.

Since this is a daytime look I opted to only line my top lid. Usually, when I play with color I tend to line all around the eye to make it pop but decided that would work best for an evening look instead of what I was trying to achieve today.
In this close up you can get an idea of how sheer the formulation was. I applied it wet and built up to three layers. |
Since I wanted most of the attention focused on my eyes I made sure to keep the rest of the makeup simple to balance out my face which meant that I had to change the blush and lipstick that I normally wear. I didn't want a color clash so I traded in my pink blush for a more tawny hue (Iman blush in cinnamon) and I did away with my usual darker lipstick and chose a pink color that I achieved by combining two products (e.l.f lipstick in Runway Pink and e.l.f. Pout Perfector in Glow).

Overall I liked getting the chance to experiment with my normal routine and slowly but surely I'm getting over my addiction to burgundy/wine lipstick. It is always fun to try something new and especially when you like the finished result like I did. I will try to use the NYX eyeshadow trio more but since the formulation is so sheer I think I will only use it for a daytime look instead of using it for an evening look. I loved the NYX eyeliner in 911 Emerald City and will probably get a lot more use out of that since it is more of a richer jade color and works well for day and night.
