Color blocking is often described as taking opposites on the color wheel and pairing them together to make interesting color combinations. The most famous case of this is the artist Piet Mondrian's work featuring a color block pattern of red, white, blue, yellow, and black. Several decades later, fashion legend Yves Saint Laurent designed an iconic collection referencing Mondrian's work during the 1960s.

Fast forward to current times and the color block trend has come back in full force. A lot of designers have been referencing the iconic pattern in their collections for the past few seasons with a modern spin. Instead of just using opposing colors they are also now using hues from the same color family showcasing a softer take on the trend.
Today I am featuring some of my favorite color block accessories for men and women. Why accessories? Personally, I have always felt that the easiest way to try out a bold trend is through accessories. Once you feel comfortable with that it is so much easier to consider making a bolder statement by rocking the pattern on clothing. So I guess I have a one step at a time approach to fashion that I generally think would work for most people.
How do you approach color blocking when it pertains to fashion? Will you be rocking the colorful trend this summer?
